How to do it:

  • Try to get out of the hold by squatting down in a strong stance.
  • Lean forward
  • Bend your elbow towards the attacker, all the way to his forearm until he lets go of your wrist.

  • The first response when someone grabs your wrist is to pull it back.
  • Fight against this urge.

Straight punch:

If someone in front of you poised himself as a threat be it physical or verbal and you want this person to get out of the personal space he’s invading, blowing a straight punch can prove to be very effective.

How to do it:

  • Push the ball of your foot
  • Thrust your hip
  • Blow your fist forward

  • Avoid flipping up the elbows
  • The pointer finger together with the middle finger should be positioned a little forward when folded into a knuckle position.

Front and back choke hold:

This move is quite advanced and will need plenty of practice before being able to execute it properly. However, it can come in pretty handy in very risky situations. It’s well worth learning and practicing for.

How to do it:

  • Swing your good arm across to break an attacker’s hold.
  • Use your other arm’s elbow or hand in a knife strike position.

Bear hug:

This self defense tactic is from Krav Maga–a physical defense system officially used by Israeli Defense Forces. It is originally designed to help you in hand-to-hand combat or self-defense to give you a fighting chance at survival against grabs and holds. This technique is something you should do when someone grabs you from behind.

How to do it:

  • Drop your weight
  • Hit the attacker’s head using your elbows
  • Stomp his feet using your feet as hard as you can

If this step doesn’t work, here’s an alternative:

  • Pull the attacker’s fingers back
  • Continue pushing until he is forced to release you
  • Rotate out of his hold
  • Fight back using your knees and kicks

Mount position:

How to do it:

  • Trap his arm to your chest
  • Use your foot to trap his foot and leg
  • Lift your hips
  • Turn over onto your knees to reverse the situation and get on top of the attacker
